Well, I haven't been reading much that's traditionally called "theology" lately, but I HAVE been reading. This last year it seems like I've read a bunch of true novels or memoirs or autobiographies or whatever you want to call them by women. These have all been given to me, some by my step-mom, some by my mother-in-law, because they liked the books and thought I would, too.
As an aside, I really like it when people do that. First, it gives me free, good books to read, which is always a plus! Second, it's cool to see what they're reading and connecting with, and it seems like a cool connecting point with them, even if we never talk about the books. Most of these books have been relatively spiritually-oriented, so I think it connects me not only to the women who wrote the books, and not only out of interest's sake, but also to what's going on the souls of two of my mother-figures.
The books:
Eat, Pray, Love: one woman's search for everything across Italy, India & Indonesia (Elizabeth Gilbert)
The Cloister Walk (Kathleen Norris)
4 of Maya Angelou's autobiographies including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
currently working on: A Year by the Sea: thoughts of an unfinished woman (Joan Anderson)
I've been meaning to blog about each of these, but haven't gotten around to it. So here's hoping that I'll write some posts about them in the next few days. (But don't hold your breath!)
